Alive With Christ

Colossians 2:13
And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,…

One who is in Christ no longer resides in death (separation from God) for Jesus has forgiven us of our sin by becoming sin for us (removing what stood between us and God). We have been made alive together with Jesus Christ. You are one spirit with Him. God told Adam if he sinned he would die. Before Adam sinned all that God had made was good. After he sinned evil entered into the world through the death that came from man’s sin. Death (all that is not good) reigned in the earth and over man. Jesus has tasted death for all so that man could be restored to life by our union with Him, and now by faith in Christ we can reign in this life over death and all the evil that came as a result of that death. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Remove the taste of death from your mouth by speaking life, declaring what you now have in Christ. As a child of God death no longer has dominion over you. See yourself as one with Christ, victorious over death and all the evil that came as a result of that death, for you have been delivered from death and have been made alive with Christ. Death and evil no longer have dominion over you. Speak life!

Follow Jesus

Ephesians 2:5
Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him,…

Our Heavenly Father has given us the very same new life as Jesus Himself through our union with Him by the Holy Spirit. Jesus revealed to us how we can follow in His example to walk In this new life. Jesus said that He only did what He saw the Father doing, and He only said what He heard the Father say. Imagine how different believers lives would be if they followed in the Lord’s example of doing and saying only what the Father leads us to do or say. We can follow His example by looking to God’s Word each day and filling our hearts with the Word of God for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. If we fill our hearts with God’s Word, we too will begin to say what God says. We can also begin to do only what we see the Father doing through the example of His Word and through following the inward witness of the Holy Spirit. Feed on God’s Word and follow Jesus’ example of only saying and doing what we see from our Heavenly Father and you will walk in the very life of Christ Himself.

Crucified With Christ

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Who is Paul referring to that was crucified? He was of course referring to his spirit man, not his soul nor his body. The disciples in referring to themselves in the first person referred to their spirit within, the real you. Most Christians are body or soul conscious because when talking about themselves that is what they are referring to. You must become spirit conscious if you want to walk by faith in the body you live in, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Faith is based on what God’s Word says, not what you see or feel in the natural. You are a spirit, not a body nor a soul; you have a soul and you live in a body. Once born again we are to walk by faith not by sight. But if we associate ourselves as a body or a soul and we are not spirit conscious we will walk by sight, by what our bodies feel or see, and not by faith in what God’s Word says. So go to the New Testament and start meditating on the scriptures that reveal the real you. These are the “in Christ” scriptures just like the one above. This will make you conscious of your spirit man, the new you. Develop the man on the inside, your spirit man, and you will learn to walk by faith and not by sight.

Freely Given Us All Things

Romans 8:32
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things.

By our faith in what Christ has done, God the Father has given to us salvation by His Son being delivered up for us all, so will He also freely give to us all things. We receive them by faith as a gift from God just like salvation. All that God has for us is based on what Jesus has already done, there is nothing more for Him to do. It is now up to us to receive what we have in Christ. Just like being born again God has already done what is needed for every person to receive the gift of eternal life. Scripture tells us that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself. God is not going to do this, it is already so. It is now up to the sinner to receive what He has provided for him. So it is with all Christ has done for us. Many who are born again don’t feel they deserve what God has promised us in Christ. They believe once they get good enough God will bless them with what He has promised. But notice this verse says He has “freely” given to us all things. You don’t earn what Christ has provided for you, you simply learn to receive what is already yours by faith. Faith believes in the heart what God has promised, faith declares with the mouth it is so, and faith acts upon that promise. You can’t earn anything from God, you take possession of it by faith in His Word.

Walk In A New Life

Romans 6:6
We know that our old (unrenewed) self was nailed to the cross with Him in order that [our] body [which is the instrument] of sin might be made ineffective and inactive for evil, that we might no longer be the slaves of sin.

Once you receive Christ as your Savior the old sinful nature within has been done away with as your spirit man is made new. There is, as the above scripture reveals, an old unrenewed nature that has to do with the soul (mind, will, and emotions), that James 1:21 tells us must be saved (delivered) from the old nature by receiving with meekness the implanted Word of God. It is this renewal of the mind that helps us to develop our spirit man, and in doing so this new man leads you in victory over the flesh. Walk in the spirit, dominated by your spirit, and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh. For the mind to be renewed you must receive the Word with meekness (complete humility). Simply put, you don’t question, argue with, nor doubt God’s Word. You simply believe what it says and act upon it. As James chapter one goes on to tell us, one who is a hearer of the Word but not a doer deceives themselves. But a doer of the Word will be blessed in what they do. One’s mind is not renewed until they begin to act upon the Word of God. As you do so you learn to walk in the spirit, allowing your spirit man to dominate, and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

Live Through Him

1 John 4:9
By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.

The word “live” in this verse is defined as, “to enjoy true life”. There is only one way you can enjoy true life. You must live through Jesus, not through the old you. Jesus is our example. To live through Him one must learn to walk in the love of God. Jesus told us in His Word that we now have a new commandment to follow. We are to love one another as He has loved us. When we walk in love we follow His example and are therefore living our life through Jesus. Scripture teaches us that faith works through love. Jesus lived a life of faith because Jesus lived a life of love. The Bible teaches when we walk in love we will not stumble but if we don’t love we are living in darkness. To walk in the love of God is both a choice and it takes practice. It is something we choose to do. The love of God is in our new recreated spirit within. Walking in love is choosing to walk in the new you, instead of the old fleshly outer man. To walk in the love of God which is now residing in every believer simply means you treat other people the way you want to be treated, no matter how they treat you. Jesus on the cross looked to the very ones who crucified Him and asked the Father to forgive them for they did not know what they were doing. Choose to walk in love and you will live your life through Jesus Christ. In doing so we can enjoy “true life”, the kind of life Jesus lived.

God At Work In Us

Hebrews 13:21
…working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

By our submission to Jesus Christ our heavenly Father is able to work in us to do that which is pleasing in His sight. Our transformation does not take place by our ability, but God’s ability through our availability. For this to happen we must present our bodies as a living sacrifice unto God. To do so we have to redeem our time, giving attention to our spiritual growth by going to the Word of God. As we do we need to renew our minds to who we now are in Christ. The renewal of the mind involves four things. 1. Reading the Word of God, and to truly read the Word we must hear what the Lord is saying to us. 2. Meditating on God’s Word. This is taking the time to ponder what is being said. How does it apply to you. 3. Studying God’s Word. We need to become good students of the Word so that we are rightly dividing the Word of truth. 4. Acting upon God’s Word. One’s mind is not fully renewed without acting upon what we see in the Word of God. When you present your body unto God and fully renew your mind to God’s Word you allow Him to work in you to see the new man on the inside transform your life on the outside.
