Watch Your Words

2 Timothy 1:13
Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

Words are powerful. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. We are told in this verse to retain or in other words only speak sound words. Sound words are words filled with faith and love. Faith filled words are based on what God's Word says. We should do as Jesus did, only speaking what you hear the Father say. You are walking in today what you have said in your yesterday's for James chapter 3 teaches us that our words determine the path our life takes.

Words filled with fear, worry, doubt, and unbelief will produce exactly that. Speaking such things will not produce faith, for faith comes by hearing God's Word, and you hear your words more than anything else. To change your words you must change what you hear for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. So check up on what you have been saying. Fill up on the truth of God's Word and you will change what you speak, and you will change your future to line up with the Word of God.

Set Apart

2 Timothy 1:9
…who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,

We are saved by grace through faith. Once we have been saved (born again), because of God's grace (receiving what we did not deserve) we have a calling to be holy, which means set apart to God, for God is holy. In 2 Corinthian 7:1 we are told to cleanse ourselves of all filthiness of the flesh and spirit perfecting holiness in the fear of God. This is what we do after we have been born again. The very reason one gives their life to Christ is to turn from the god of this world (satan) to be set apart from him and his ways unto God, walking in the example of Jesus Christ who has liberated us from the worlds destructive ways. The key here is don't focus on what you need to be set apart from, focus on Who you are being set apart to and who you now are in Christ Jesus, the new nature on the inside. We are in the world but not of the world. Therefore don't follow the worlds example, follow after Christ, looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith and you will live a holy life set apart unto Him.

Walk By Faith, Live In Love

1 Timothy 1:14
…and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.

When we are born again there are two very important elements that we find in our relationship with Jesus Christ. They are faith and love. Once born again we are given a measure of faith, and the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts. God gives us these two new elements so that we can begin to live a whole new way of life. We are to learn how to walk by faith and walk in the love of God. We are to take the measure of faith God gives us and continue to develop and use our new faith. Simply put, faith believes in and acts as if the Word of God is true (because it is). Walking by faith is walking by what God's Word says and not what your circumstances say. Feeding on the Word is vital to your faith walk for this is how faith continues to grow. But you must also act upon the Word to walk by the faith you have been given. We are also to walk in love, treating others the way we want to be treated no matter how they treat us. This too requires action on our part based on the love of God that is now in our hearts and not acting upon our fleshly outer man. Faith is dependent on this love for faith works through love. Receiving Christ as your Lord means to receive a whole new way to live your life here on earth. A life of faith and love.

Death or Life – It’s Our Choice

Romans 8:6
The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

How you view things in this life determines whether you will walk in death or life. Death refers to that which came as a result of sin, and leads one to be separated from life, which refers to the God-kind of life. If we continue to live our lives with our minds governed by the way our flesh sees things and not God, we will not experience the God-kind of life He has for us here. Stop seeing things in this life from the world's viewpoint, instead see what God sees. Man sees sickness, God sees healing. Man sees defeat, God sees victory. Man sees hopelessness, God sees hope fulfilled because He sees all things through what Christ has done for you. Our minds are governed by what we choose to focus our attention on. You can choose to give your attention to seeing life through the flesh (man’s viewpoint); or you can choose to see things through the spirit (God’s viewpoint). The one you choose will determine if you walk in death or life and peace.

Give Thanks Always

1 Thessalonians 5:18
…in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

God's desire for us is to see His will manifested. A key to seeing God's will manifested is in thanking Him for what He has done for us through Christ Jesus. Thanksgiving is a key to faith. To walk in God's promises you must see what He has promised in His Word as already done for in the eyes of God everything you have in Christ is already an established fact. For example you are redeemed, you are not going to be. What God promised us in Christ was established 2000 years ago through His death, burial, resurrection and ascension. So to live a life of thanksgiving don't focus on what you see in the natural, focus on what God's Word has said, and start thanking Him for what He has already done for you through Christ Jesus. Those who are grateful (full of gratitude), will be faithful (full of faith).

Be A Wise Virgin

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

There is no doubt that Jesus will return to catch away those who are ready. Jesus said to watch and pray to be ready. He taught a parable of 10 virgins that relates to His return to catch away those who are ready. Five were wise and five were foolish. To become a virgin (pure) one must be born again. The wise virgins not only had their lamps lit (which represents one who is saved) but they also had an extra jar full of oil. The foolish had their lamps lit, but their jars were not full. This jar being full means they remained active in pursuing God and the things of God. The foolish were instead consuming their time with worldly things and not therefore actively pursuing God. These foolish virgins tried to get the wise virgins to give them some of their oil, but you can only get it through your relationship with God. The wise were ready for Christ's return and went with Him when He came, but the foolish were left behind. Don't be a foolish virgin who has accepted Christ but is not walking with God but instead chasing after the world. Jesus is coming soon.

Complete In Christ

Colossians 1:28
Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

The word "perfect" means complete. It is not other people, things you own, nor your status in life that makes you complete. It is Jesus Christ and Him alone that makes your life complete and that is why they preached Christ to everyone. When we try to find our worth in what we do, what other people think of us, or in what we have in the natural we are always going to feel incomplete because in doing so we are trying to find our worth in the creation and not our Creator. It's not a selfie you take that everyone likes, nor getting compliments on something you've accomplished that makes you who you are. It is Christ who makes us what we are, a new creation. So look to Jesus to find your true worth and identity in life, not the world, other people, nor things in this world, and you will have all that completes you.

The Truth Shall Set You Free

John 8:31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
John 8:32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

God's Word will only help you to the degree that you hear, receive, and act upon it. God's Word spoken brought into existence everything we see. There is nothing more powerful than the Word of God. His Word is a prevailing force. The word prevail means to prove more powerful than any opposing force, to be victorious. In Acts 19:20 scripture says that the Word continued to grow mightily and prevail. This was a result of the disciples teaching the people what God's Word said. The more that Word grew and came alive in the hearts of those who heard it, the more that Word prevailed in and through their lives. To get God's Word in us we must hear it, speak it, meditate on it, and live it. For those who do, this prevailing force, the Word of God, will work in and through your life; proving itself more powerful than any opposing force, and it will help you to live a victorious life.

Let Down Your Nets

Luke 5:4-6
4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your NETS for a catch.”
5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the NET.”
6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.

God is always willing to do more than we realize. What a powerful story of how Jesus wanted to bless Peter for allowing Him to use his boat to preach the gospel to the crowd gathered on the shore. After fishing all night and catching nothing Jesus tells them right where to drop their NETS to catch fish. Peter responds telling Him they had fished all night catching nothing as if to say I am the fisherman, you are the preacher, I know how to fish. But Jesus knows how to do all things well. Peter being skeptical just lets down one NET. Of course they catch so much fish they have to call for their friends boat to help. God is only hindered in blessing us to the degree we can believe. He is only limited by our faith, not His willingness or ability. God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all we ask or think. It is up to us what we can believe God for so use your faith and obey His Word.

Leave The Past Behind

Philippians 3:13-14
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

A key to moving forward into all God has for your life is to forget what is behind. If you hold on to the past you will remain there. In the Old Testament the first generation of the children of Israel once delivered out of Egypt kept looking back to Egypt and they did not go forward into the promise land God had for them. Only Joshua and Caleb let go of the past and were therefore able to enter the promise God had awaiting them. Stop thinking about, talking about, and focusing on your past and what is behind you. Stop seeing the person you used to be and start seeing in scripture who God has made you to be. Leave the past, yours and others where it belongs, behind you. When you let go of the past you can then move forward by faith into what God has promised for you.
