2 Corinthians 1:20
20 For every one of Godʼs promises are “Yes” in him; therefore also through him the “Amen” is spoken, to the glory we give to God.
When Paul wrote this second letter to the Corinthian church they had been swayed by false teachers to no longer believe in Paul and what he had been preaching to them. They began to questions the “promises” (notice this is plural for there are many) of God that were now theirs through Christ Jesus. Paul affirms that they did not preach to them that some promises were yes and some no. ALL THE PROMISES OF GOD GIVEN IN CHRIST ARE YES! But take note of the key to partaking of those promises. We must speak the “Amen”. This is a very unique word that has been called the best known word in human speech because it has been used in just about every language. It’s original meaning comes from the Hebrew meaning – “To believe, so be it, may it be fulfilled”. You see for us to be recipients of the promises we have in Christ we must believe they are so and therefore fulfilled in our life thus giving our “Amen”. For those who do, they will never have to wonder if any promise of God in Christ is available to them for the answer is always “Yes”!
