For [if we are] in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith activated and energized and expressed and working through love.
There is often much emphasis placed upon faith in the life of a believer and for good reason for it is impossible to receive what God has available to us without faith. But often overlooked is the part that love plays in the operation of our faith. As the above verse states, faith is activated, energized, and expressed through love. When I was growing up my my dad had some land with a pasture for horses. That pasture had to be watered for the grass to grow so the horses had something to graze on. There was a concrete ditch that ran along the back side of the property that carried the water to where it needed to go. We would open portholes in the ditch when it was our turn to water so that the water would irrigate the pasture. Without that concrete ditch the water would have not been able to get where it needed to go. So it is with faith and love. Like the water you can have faith to produce what is needed, but without love there is no way for that faith to flow where it needs to go. If you get out of love your faith won’t work. If you want your faith to work stay in love and your faith will be active in accomplishing what God has for you.
