Walk In The Light

Ephesians 5:8

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light…

As a child of God who is now light in the Lord we are to walk in the light as He is in the light. In 1 John 2:10 we are told that if we love our brother we abide in the light and there is no cause for stumbling in us. If you have ever walked into a dark room in which there were obstacles all around and you were trying to find a light switch you probably stumbled as you moved about looking for that switch. So it is for us as believers when we do not walk in love. Before being born again we did not have the love of God within us. We were filled with darkness, but once we receive Christ, God’s love (His light) now resides in us. We have become the light of the world. The wise men were led to Jesus by a shinning star which brought them to the Savior. When we walk in love we are that shinning star leading people to Jesus. His love is an action not a feeling. We walk in love by choosing to treat others the way we would want to be treated. When we walk in love our faith is working for us because faith works through love and this will keeps us from stumbling. So choose to walk in the light you have been given by choosing to act upon the love, His light that He has placed in you.

Ephesians 1:6

to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

The Father has accepted all who are in Christ Jesus because of what Jesus has done for us. In one episode of the Andy Griffith show, Andy and Barney get an invitation to become a part of a very prestigious men’s club. Barney who was always trying to find his value and worth in what others thought of him tried to act like someone he is not. In doing so they did not get accepted into the club. When we as believers in Christ try and find our worth in being accepted by others it will often lead us to act like someone we are not. In doing so we then begin to drift away from God no longer living as a Christian and we therefore break our fellowship with Him. But God has already accepted us through the blood Christ shed for us. We no longer need to try and find our worth in others, for our sole worth comes from God. So as a born again child of God don’t try to be someone you are not to gain man’s acceptance, and don’t fall for the lie that God has not accepted you. Because of what Jesus did for you, you are already accepted by God.

Door of Fellowship

1 John 5:20

And we know that the Son of God has come, and He has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and He is eternal life.

What was the primary reason Jesus came? So that we through Him being born again could be restored back into a relationship with God. So that we could know God. Far to many believers are satisfied with getting born again and then continuing to live life on their own instead of taking time to get to know their Heavenly Father, who desires to walk with them every day. There is only one way you will experience true peace, joy, and contentment in life, and that is in knowing God; not just knowing about Him. As the scripture above reveals we live in fellowship with God through our fellowship with Jesus. The disciples of Jesus’ day did so spending time with Jesus every day. For us we do so by spending time in the Word each day, for Jesus is the Word that became flesh. When we take time to fellowship with the Lord through His Word, we fellowship with our God and Father. Get to know the Word (Jesus), and you get to know your God and Father who loves you and desires to love on you. There is no one nor anything that will make your life complete except knowing God. So the door of fellowship unto the Father opens to us when we choose to open our Bible, for when we do we open the door to God.

Are We Listening

Psalms 81:11-12

11 “But my people did not listen to my voice;

Israel did not obey me.

12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own plans.

Every failure in life can be attributed to not listening. The Bible teaches us that listening means we hear what God has to say and we do it. The reason it is a challenge to listen to God is because we often filter what we hear by what we want. When you listen to God (hearing and doing what He says) it will often be quite challenging to do so because He is going to tell us things that will be difficult for our flesh to want to do. Believers often think they are listening to God, but if we are then many times our flesh feels uncomfortable, and we as humans don’t like that. But every time I have ever failed in any area of my life as a believer it was because I was not fully listening to God. I was either not taking the time necessary to do so, or I was not willing to deal with my flesh to do what God had said. What often seems right to us is of course not right to God. His ways are not our ways. Every time I have listened to God, which almost always included me having to crucify my fleshly man to accept God’s way of doing things, I have seen victories in my life. God has never had anyone in the Bible who truly listened to Him walk in defeat. It has never happened. So the question becomes are we really listening to God? If we are there will most certainly be an uncomfortable part of our flesh to deal with, but the result will always be success.

How To Pray

1 John 5:14-15

14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

One of the keys to effect prayer is knowing what you have prayed about is God’s will for you. You can’t believe you have received something from God if you don’t know it is God’s will. But when we know we have prayed according to His will we know God not only heard our prayer, we know we have what we have asked of Him. Think of how many times people have prayed and God did not hear their prayer because they were not asking in line with His will. The only prayer God can hear is the prayer of faith and that is a prayer based on the will of God. All we have to do is go to the Word of God and find out what His will is for us and establish that in our hearts. Then when we petition God according to His Word we will know we have our petition. Some people think God will hear them if they just pray long enough but that is not true either. God has no problem hearing any prayer that is prayed in faith according to His will. So before you petition God for anything find out His will in His word. Settle it in your heart that it is His will for you. Then when you pray you will know He has heard you, and you will know you have what you have asked of Him. Then just keep thanking Him for what He has said is already yours.

Purify Yourself

1 John 3:2-3

2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

The hope we have in Him is that when we see Him we shall become like Him. This hope (confident expectation of good) is the reason we purify ourselves. The words “purifies himself” means to cleanse and to sanctify from that which is morally wrong. This is the responsibility of each individual believer, to cleanse from their life that which is not holy in the sight of God, and to be holy just as He is holy. We cleanse our life from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit awaiting His return. We do so by hiding His Word in our heart that we might not sin against Him. We also remove from our life anything that would tempt us to sin. This is what Jesus meant when He said if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. He was telling us to remove things from out of our reach that would tempt us to sin. If you do sin and miss the mark immediately repent and keep chasing after God. To repent means you simply turn away from whatever sin you commit and turn to God. Finally don’t ever allow the devil nor anyone to make you think God does not love you anymore. He loves you with an everlasting love. God does not know how to not love you, for He is love. Let His love draw you to Him so the power of that love can free you from sin.

Living Like Jesus

1 John 2:5-6

5 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:

6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

Many ministers talk about God’s love for us, but what about our love for God? Jesus said if we love Him we would keep His commandments. We walk as He walked, living in obedience to the Word motivated by love, not by law. We don’t keep His Word because it’s a law but simply because we love Him. Obedience to God’s Word is what faith is all about. Faith is an act and faith is revealed to the degree that we trust God. How far can you trust the Lord? That is the extent of your faith. Faith believes, speaks, and acts in line with God’s Word, but faith works when motivated through love. Jesus was obedient to His Father and He did so motivated by love. Jesus said that He only did that which He saw the Father doing. How different our lives will be if we would only do what we see in our Fathers Word. His Word is to be a lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our path. So walk in the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, keeping His Word, motivated by love. It will be a life lived that you won’t regret. A life filled with all that God is, and all that God has for you, for He and His Word are one.

The Gift of Christmas

Acts 3:19

19 Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;

Christmas is a wonderful time of celebrating the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. To often though people get all caught up in the presents they give or get, but it’s not about the presents under the tree; it’s about the presence of God that comes to revive man with new life. The word refreshing in the above verse refers to a recovery of breath. When man was created God breathed His presence into man. When man sinned the presence of God left man, but after Jesus had been raised from the dead the Bible says in John 20:22 He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit”. The presence of God was once again back in the heart of man. For all who have received Jesus as their Lord and Savior they have His presence residing within them. God wants us to live in an awareness of His presence every day. Romans teaches us that His Spirit bears witness with our spirit, so we must become more aware of our spirit man within, the real you on the inside. You are a spirit, you have a soul (mind, will, and emotions), and you live in a body. We tend to be far more body conscience and soul conscience then we are of the spirit within. Take time to renew your mind in the New Testament to this new man on the inside. As you do you will not only become more aware of His presence within you, but you will also become more aware of all God has available for you. Enjoy the gift God provided for you 2,000 years ago on the first Christmas. His presence that now resides within every born again believer.

Complete In Christ

Colossians 2:10

…and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;

To be complete here means to fill to the full, be satisfied. You will only be satisfied in life when Jesus is what you are focused on. Everything else will leave you feeling empty and unfulfilled. If your happiness and joy in life is found in the things of the earth, what you posses, or in the approval of other people whether they like you or not, it will be temporary for what is seen is subject to change. If we think anything other than Jesus is going to fulfill our life and make us complete we are still living under the deception of Adam and Eve looking to God’s creation to find joy and contentment in life instead of the Creator Himself, Jesus Christ of Nazareth through whom all things were created. Don’t worship the creation including other people, for there is only One who will bring full value and worth and satisfaction to your life; the One who gave His life for you. When your heart is set on Jesus you will walk in the only thing that will make you complete, Him.

Take My Yoke

Matthew 11:29

Take my yoke on you and become like me, for I am gentle and without pride, and you will have rest for your souls;…

Being a Christian does not actually refer directly to being born again, but in fact refers to becoming like Jesus, which begins with being born again. Notice Jesus said here in Matthew to become like Him you must be gentle, which is translated humble and without pride. When you look to Jesus’ life you find out in several verses what that means. Jesus said He did not come to fulfill His will, but the will of the Father who sent Him. When we choose to not do what God’s Word tells us, which is His will for us, we are choosing our will over His. This is pride, not humility. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). His grace flows to those who are humble, yielded, and submitted to His will. This is what Isaiah 1:19 refers to telling us if we are willing and obedient we will eat the good of the land. What determines if we eat the good of the land? Whether you are willing and obedient or not. Jesus gave up His will for the Fathers will, obeying His Word all the way to the cross. In the garden of Gethsemane Jesus prayed and said, “Not my will Father, but your will be done.” So if we quit choosing our own way over God’s we will live in Christ’s example as a Christ follower, a Christian, taking His yoke and becoming like Him.
