Know God

2 John 1:6, 9

6 Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning.

9 Anyone who wanders away from this teaching has no relationship with God. But anyone who remains in the teaching of Christ has a relationship with both the Father and the Son.

To walk with Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father you must abide in the doctrine (teachings) of our Lord Jesus. You can’t live the way you want to and walk in close fellowship with God. As a great man of God Dr. Roy Hicks said, “God loves everyone the same, but He does not fellowship with everyone the same.” Jesus provided for us a way back to the Father so we could once again have fellowship with Him and get to know Him. Coming to God’s Word and learning His ways is how we get to know God for He and His Word are one. This is how we fulfill His commandment of love for Jesus declared in John 14:21 that if we love Him we will keep His commandments, thus fulfilling what He has taught us through His Word. The great Smith Wigglesworth said, “I can’t understand God by feelings. I can’t understand the Lord Jesus Christ by feelings. I can only understand God the Father and Jesus Christ by what the Word says about them. God is everything the Word says He is. We need to get acquainted with Him through the Word.” Jesus taught us how to walk with Him and the Father. If we will follow His teachings you will walk in fellowship with God and with His Son Jesus Christ.

Acknowledge All That Is Good

Philemon 1:6

…that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Once you are born again you have within you all that is good, because you have the very presence of God Himself residing in your spirit. To become effective in sharing your faith, acknowledge how good your God is. Don’t magnify the devil by focusing on and talking about what you may be facing in the natural; magnify the goodness of God within you by acknowledging all you have in Christ Jesus and what He has done for you. This is what walking by faith and not by sight is all about. When you walk by faith you do not look at what is seen or revealed to the senses, but the things which are not seen (what is not yet revealed in the natural realm) but found in the promises of God’s Word. We don’t deny the natural realm, we just don’t magnify and focus our attention on it by talking about and confessing the problems. Instead we focus on the goodness of God by looking to God’s Word and magnifying and confessing the Word of God over our lives. Faith is unmoved by what it sees, unaffected by what it feels. That is true faith and that is how you will change your circumstances and share your faith with others as you acknowledge all that is good in Christ Jesus.

Strengthened By Grace

2 Timothy 2:1

You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

The grace we have in Christ is able to bring great strength to the believer. Grace is help from heaven, what God is able to do in and through your life. The Word of God says that He resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Pride is a result of focusing on yourself, your own will and what you want. Those who are humble are focused on God and what His will is for them. Those who are humble remain teachable, and therefore are always looking to God and His Word, fully submitting their lives to God and His desires for their life. Those who are humble recognize they have been bought with a price, the precious blood of Jesus and therefore their life is not their own, they now belong to God. One who does so is going to be strong in the grace of God, walking in the ability God gives to them. But God resists the proud, those who are living life for themselves and what they desire. Such people will not receive the help God has for them for they are choosing to live life on their terms and this hinders their ability to receive from God. So keep your focus on God and His Word speaking and acting upon what scripture teaches us, remaining yielded unto His will and you will receive more grace (help from heaven).

Maintain Sound Words

2 Timothy 1:13

Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

Words are powerful. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. We are told in this verse to retain or in other words only speak sound words. Sound words are words filled with faith and love. Faith filled words are based on what God’s Word says. We should do as Jesus did, only speaking what you hear the Father say. You are walking in today what you have said in your yesterday’s for James chapter 3 teaches us that our words determine the path our life takes. Words filled with fear, worry, doubt, and unbelief will produce exactly that. We are to speak the truth (God’s Word) in love. We should always speak to others the way we would want them to speak to us. We should not slander or speak ill of others, but as scripture teaches our words should be a gift to one another. To change your words you must change what you hear for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. So check up on what you have been saying. Fill up on the truth of God’s Word and you will change what you speak, and you will change your future to line up with the Word of God.

Called To Live Holy

2 Timothy 1:9

…who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,

We are saved by grace through faith. Once we have been saved (born again), because of God’s grace (receiving what we did not deserve) we have a calling to be holy, which means set apart to God, for God is holy. In 2 Corinthian 7:1 we are told to cleanse ourselves of all filthiness of the flesh and spirit perfecting holiness in the fear of God. This is what we do after we have been born again. The very reason one gives their life to Christ is to turn from the god of this world (satan) to be set apart from him and his ways unto God, walking in the example of Jesus Christ who has liberated us from the worlds destructive ways. The key here is don’t focus on what you need to be set apart from, focus on who you are being set apart to and who you now are in Christ Jesus, the new nature on the inside. We are in the world but not of the world, therefore don’t follow the worlds example, follow after Christ, looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith and you will live a holy life, set apart unto Him.

A New Life To Live

1 Timothy 1:14

…and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.

When we are born again there are two very important elements that we find in our relationship with Jesus Christ. They are faith and love. Once born again we are given a measure of faith and the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts. God gives us these two new elements so that we can begin to live a whole new way of life. We are to learn how to walk by faith and walk in the love of God. We are to take the measure of faith God gives us and continue to develop and use our new faith. Simply put, faith believes in and acts as if the Word of God is true. Walking by faith is walking by what God’s Word says and not what your circumstances say. Feeding on the Word is vital to your faith walk for this is how faith continues to come. But you must act upon the Word to walk by the faith you have been given. We are also to walk in love, treating others the way we want to be treated no matter how they treat us. This to requires action on our part based on the love of God that is now in our hearts and not acting upon our fleshly outer man. Faith is dependant on this love for faith works through love. Receiving Christ as your Lord means to receive a whole new way to live your life here on earth. A life of faith and love. God gave us new life so we could live a “new life”, walking by faith in the love of God.

Focus Your Mind On The Things of The Spirit

Rom. 8:6 The corrupt nature’s attitude leads to death. But the spiritual nature’s attitude leads to life and peace.

How you view things in this life determines whether you will walk in death or life. Death refers to that which came as a result of sin, and leads one to be separated from life, which is defined as the God-kind of life. If we continue to live our lives with our minds governed by what we see around us, only viewing life from a natural perspective or what is known as the corrupt natures way of seeing things; this will keep us separated from the life God desires for us to walk in for we are then walking by sight and not by faith. Stop seeing things in this life from the world’s viewpoint, only focused on the what is seen instead see what God sees. Man sees sickness, God sees healing. Man sees defeat, God sees victory. Man sees hopelessness, God sees hope fulfilled because He sees all things through what Christ has done for you. The reason many believers do not walk in what God sees is because they are not doing as scripture teaches us, which is to walk by faith and not by sight focusing not on what is seen but what God has said. The more we take on the attitude of God through the promise of His Word, choosing to focus on and declare what God’s Word says we have been given through what Jesus has done for us and therefore seeing things as God sees them, the more life and peace we will walk in.
