Choose His Will

1 Peter 5:10

10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

In the verses that come before this Peter talks about the fact that satan will test the faith of believers to see if he can get them to stop trusting God. The devil will try to get us to give up on God and His ways trying to get us to do things our own way, allowing the cares of this world to affect us. But for the believer who will stand in faith, choosing to walk in the will and the ways of God, trusting in and choosing to honor and obey God’s Word; their faith will bring them through and they will become strong, established, and unmovable. Many believers do not make it through such suffering for they would rather do things their way instead of God’s way. Even Jesus the Bible teaches us learned obedience through His suffering. The greatest suffering Jesus faced was in not getting His will, but choosing instead the Father’s will over His own. You see this in the garden of Gethsemane when Jesus prayed in agony for three hours asking the Father if there was any other way He could accomplish what needed to be done, but He then declared, “Not My will, but yours be done”. Jesus did not want to be separated from His Father for He had never been before. This is the difference in those who walk in great faith, and those who never see their faith grow. If you are going to live your life the way you want getting your way, you won’t go the way of faith. His ways are not our ways, but they are so much better. For those who stand in faith, choosing the Father’s will over theirs in which your flesh will suffer not getting your way, you will become stronger, complete, and established in faith and in the will of God.

Develop You Spirit Man

1 Peter 2:5

…you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

One of the primary goals for the believer is to become spiritual (led by our spirit man, the real you), not carnal (led by our flesh). You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body. Just as man has learned how to develop his body and his soul, you can develop your spirit man. This is what every believer should do, for when your spirit man is dominate, this new nature made in the image of God will control and direct you. To develop your spirit man you need to:

1. Meditate on the Word of God.

2. Practice the Word.

3. Give the Word first place.

4. Obey your conscience (the voice of your spirit).

5. Pray in the Spirit.

6. Walk in love.

Do these things and you will grow spiritually. As you do the old flesh nature will no longer rule you and you will be led by your spirit man.

A Living Hope

1 Peter 1:3

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,…

Because of what Jesus did in restoring our relationship with God we now have a living hope, for our hope is in Him. Hope means a confident expectation of good. As a believer we should be living in hope every day. We can do so by first looking to hope past. The children of Israel had a promise given to them by God of good to come. A Messiah would come and deliver them from their sin. That expectation of good came to pass just as God had said. We can now live in hope present looking at all that scripture teaches us that Christ has fulfilled for us and therefore we can expect good to come to pass based on all that He has done. We can also live in hope to come as we know Jesus will return for His church and we will ever be with the Lord. All who are born again are no longer without hope for God is that hope. Don’t live a hopeless life. Look to His Word and expect what He has promised to come to pass in your life for God is good to all who call upon Him in faith, knowing what God has promised He is able to perform in your life.

Fruits of Righteousness

Philippians 1:11

…being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

All who are born again have been filled with the fruits of righteousness known as the fruit of the spirit revealed to us in Galatians 5:22-23. They are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. To bring that fruit to fruition we must abide in Him, and His Word must abide in us as John 15:7 tells us that when we do so we will bear much fruit. To abide means to become one with. We abide in Jesus when we become born again and then do not deny Him, for we are then one spirit with the Lord. For His Word to abide in us, to become one with us, we must see the Word prevail over our lives. Our minds must be renewed to the Word of God. The renewal of the mind is more than just getting head knowledge of God’s Word. We must become doers of the Word of God. When we feed on the Word of God primarily the epistles, for they reveal who we now are in Christ so that it becomes real to us and become a doer His Word, we abide in His Word. The fruits of righteousness will follow. To live righteous means to walk in conformity to His will, and as we walk in the fruit of the spirit we will always walk in line with God’s will. So if you abide in Him, and His Word abides in you, you become one with the Word and you will walk in the fruits of righteousness.

Justified By Faith

Galatians 2:16

…nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

We were justified (given right standing with God) not by works, but through faith in Christ. Justified means God declares you righteous or right with Him. God sees you just as if you had never sinned for you are a new creation in Christ Jesus. As Romans 5:1 tells us, we having been justified by faith now have peace with God. The wrath that God has toward man because of sin is taken away in Christ for all who have received Him and continue to walk with Him, they will escape the wrath to come. The devil will try to get us to pull away from God because of our past sin. Don’t fall for this lie. Because we have peace with God we can draw near to Him. We choose to do what is right in God’s sight because of what He has done for us, but If you do sin as a believer don’t run from God, repent and run to Him. You have been given peace with God because of justification. Peace means harmony between God and man. God is for us, so don’t fall for the lie that God must be against you. Because of justification through Christ Jesus we now have peace with God and He is for us because we are one spirit with the Lord.

Reconciliation

2 Corinthians 5:18

Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,…

Through Jesus Christ we have been reconciled to God. Reconciled means to restore relationship, and to make an exchange. He took our sin on the cross so that we could receive His righteousness. It is this righteousness (right standing with God) that gives us the right to all that we have in Christ. We now have a ministry to go and reconcile others to God. In the verse that follows the above scripture it goes on to tell us that God was in Christ Jesus reconciling the world to Himself, no longer counting their sins against them. To reconcile others to Christ we need to let people know that God has already dealt with their sins through the cross. It is not all their sins that is now separating them from God, but in fact in John 16:8-9 Jesus tells us that there is one sin that is hindering man from receiving the reconciliation that God has provided, and that is the sin of not putting their faith in Jesus Christ. In the eyes of God the world has been reconciled to Him for there is nothing more that He needs to do. They simply need to turn to God and put their faith in Him. Time for the church to go and shine their light to those in darkness and let them know God is waiting on them to receive them back into fellowship with Him.

I Belong To God

Romans 7:4

Likewise, my brethren, you have undergone death as to the Law through the [crucified] body of Christ, so that now you may belong to Another, to Him Who was raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God.

Once born again we now belong to God, we are not our own. Because we are His we should no longer look like, sound like, nor act like the world. We should bear godly fruit. You are in the world but no longer of the world. We don’t become born again to keep living the way we have always lived, but to now follow in the Lord’s example for our life. To do so we see in scripture that Jesus did not come to do His will, but the will of the Father who sent Him. Jesus said that He only did that which pleased the Father. We are to walk in His example no longer fulfilling our own will, but the Fathers will for us and in doing so we will bear fruit unto Him. We have been bought with a price. Jesus purchased our lives with His shed blood so we should no longer be calling the shots, but instead should be fully yielded to God. As John Osteen once said, “At all costs, and at all times obey God. One thing I have learned is that God knows more than John.” God has your best interests in mind, so remember Who you belong to and always choose to walk in the will of the Father. You will be glad you did.
