Claim Your Inheritance

Titus 3:7

…so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

By grace (receiving what we did not deserve through faith in Christ) we have been declared righteous (justified), and made heirs. Having been made righteous, we are His children and therefore we now have a right to all that Christ has provided for us. When someone passes away they have a will. That will determines who will receive what that person had given to them as a part of their inheritance. Jesus having died for us provided to all who become a part of God’s family an inheritance. He wrote it in His will, the New Testament.

If someone receives an inheritance from another person they have to claim that inheritance. So it is with what Christ has provided for us. He has given us in His will what we now have a right to, but we have to claim our inheritance. We don’t earn it, it already belongs to us, but we claim it by faith in His written will. Take time to read and meditate on His Word so you can know of all He has provided for you, and claim by faith what you as child of God now have a right to as an heir of God.

The Hope of Glory

Colossians 1:27

To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

The glory of God is His very presence. His glory is in us because He has given us the Holy Spirit. It is His very presence upon us, the anointing of God, that removes the burdens and destroys the yokes of bondage off of our lives. For us to experience the power of God’s presence working in our lives there are three things we should not do. Do not quench, resist, nor grieve the Holy Spirit. To quench the Holy Spirit is like putting water upon a fire and putting out that fire.

There are believers whom scripture tells us have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof. Quenching the Spirit is choosing to live a life of disobedience toward God. When we do the Holy Spirit is being quenched by our lifestyle and we are denying His work in changing our lives. This leads to resisting the Holy Spirit, which means as the Spirit of God now tries to lead us away from wrong living by the inward witness we resist Him. The more we do our conscience is seared and becomes numb to the inward witness of the Spirit and He becomes grieved because we are no longer responsive to Him. So don’t quench, resist, nor grieve the Holy Spirit of God and you can walk in the hope of His glorious presence.

Delivered From Darkness

Colossians 1:13

For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,…

When God made the earth and all that is in it and then made man placing him in a beautiful garden created just for him the Bible says it was good. There was no evil, no sickness, no sorrow, and no pain. All that is evil (not good) came from satan gaining access into this world through Adam and Eve’s act of disobedience. Darkness represents all that is evil. But praise God Jesus through His shed blood rescued us from this darkness taking us out from the kingdom of this world and transferring us into the kingdom of God. For all who know Jesus Christ, they have been placed right back into the very position Adam had before the fall. God told Adam he had dominion over all the earth and to therefore subdue it. Through our faith in Jesus Christ and our right standing with God we can do the same.

The devil has only two weapons, deception and seduction. He will try to seduce us or to deceive us into doing or thinking what is harmful and wrong to gain control over our lives. But we have been given the same authority Adam had to subdue the powers of the enemy. Don’t get seduced into doing or thinking things you know are not true. Keep your focus on God. When someone is seduced they know they are doing or thinking wrong, but when someone is deceived they don’t know it. To avoid deception renew your mind to the Word of God and don’t try to reason it out, just believe it and act upon it. God’s people parish for a lack of knowledge but if you know the truth, which is staying true to God’s Word, that truth will set you free from deception. So keep your heart set on God, and walk in the reality of the Word and you can live on this earth in your rightful place with God; delivered from darkness and walking in the power of God’s kingdom and authority.

Work Out Your Salvation

Phil. 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Phil. 2:13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Our obedience to God is how we work not for, but work out the salvation we have been given. As we choose to yield and be obedient to God’s Word, He empowers us to obtain our victory over the world in which we live for the word salvation means to be delivered. We are in the world but not of the world. This is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. Faith is obedience to God’s Word. As the book of James teaches us faith without corresponding action is dead. Smith Wigglesworth used to say that faith is an act.

If you go to Hebrews chapter eleven known as the hall of faith, you will find that all these people who were spoken of by God as having faith simply did what God told them to do. For example Noah was told to build an ark so Noah built an ark. Abraham was told to leave his family and go out into the wilderness so he did. Jesus has already purchased all we need through His shed blood which is found in the salvation He has given us, but we must by faith work out that salvation. When you walk by faith it is God who is at work in you to do that which is pleasing unto Him for as you walk by faith, walking out what His Word teaches, His Word is at work accomplishing in and through you all He has provided through salvation.

Live Like Jesus

Phil. 2:4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

Phil. 2:5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

We should have the same attitude Jesus had once we are born again. We should be concerned about the outcome of other people and therefore reach out to them with the gospel of Christ. Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve and we should follow His example. Jesus said in John 14:12 if we believe in Him the works He did we shall do also. We are to go into all the world and tell others the good news, proclaiming what Christ has done. We are to cast out demons, and lay hands on the sick and they will recover.

Once we are born again we are to be about the Fathers business. This is a responsibility of the whole body of Christ, not just a select few. So if you believe in Jesus, we are to have the same attitude He had, having compassion for the lost and hurting, and reaching out to them with the power of the gospel. Jesus said He did not do the works but the Father in Him was doing the works through Him. God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and He went about doing good and healing those oppressed of the devil. We have the same Holy Spirit to do the work. He is waiting for us to step out in faith and allow Him to work through us.

Heirs of God

Galatians 3:29

And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Through Christ we are heirs according to the promise given to Abraham. We are one with Christ and therefore heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus, redeemed from the curse of the law. Abraham was given a promise by God to be made righteous, receiving right standing with God. In receiving this right standing with God, the Lord also promised to bless Abraham. By faith in Christ we become partakers of that same promise.

Once born again we receive our right standing with God through His gift of righteousness. This right standing with God has given us the right to our inheritance. As scripture teaches us if God did not spare His own Son for us, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things. So just as we did not earn our salvation but received it by faith, so do we now receive by faith the inheritance that is ours in Christ Jesus. We have the blessing of Abraham for we are heirs according to the promise of God.

The Father Loves Us

John 17:23

I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.

Do you think God the Father loves His Son? How much do you think God loves His Son? No one would probably question the love God has for His own Son, but many question God’s love for them. Yet Jesus reveals to us in this verse that the Father loves us the same as He loves His Son Jesus. Many would question if that is true, but if you believe the words of Jesus that is exactly what He said so it must be true. Some would say they don’t feel like God loves them but that is where they make the mistake of walking by sight (feelings) and not by faith (His Word).

The greatest proof God loves you is seen in the picture of Jesus on the cross for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him would have everlasting life. The reason it is so important for us to know and believe the love God has for us is because perfect love casts out fear. If the devil can keep you in fear your faith won’t work. Settle it in your heart once and for all God loves you just as He loves Jesus. Walk in the reality of that love and you can walk free from fear.

Our Love For Him

John 14:23

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; …

God has revealed His love for us by sending Jesus to the cross. There is no doubt about how much God loves us for that love was revealed to us when Christ bore our sin, sickness, punishment, and shame on the cross; for greater love has no one then to lay down their life for another. But how is our love for Jesus revealed? Jesus tells us in the above verse. If we truly love Him we will keep His Word.

When you talk about obedience to the Word of God today many say you are teaching legalism and bondage. But obedience to God’s Word brings liberty not bondage. Jesus said if you become one with His Word, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. In the Old Testament they were to obey God’s Word because it was the law. In the New Testament we obey the Word of the Lord because of love. Faith works through love. Faith is acting upon and in line with the Word of God. But our faith only works when we do so because we love Him. Our love for the Lord is revealed in our obedience to Him.

We Can Do What Jesus Did

John 14:12

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”

Jesus said it was not Him but the Father in Him that did the works He did. In Acts 10:38 we are told that God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost and power who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil. Jesus did not do the miracles He did because He was God, if that were true then we would not be able to do the works He did for we are not God. Jesus most certainly is God who came in the flesh to the earth, but He did the works by the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Upon putting our faith in Jesus Christ we can do the same works Jesus did because it is the same Holy Spirit living in us that was with Him. He has given us a Helper to do the work. Now all we have to do is have faith in Jesus, what He has said to us, and faith in what we have seen Him do by the Holy Spirit within Him, and we too can do the same works. He is the Head, we are the body. We are His hands and His Word spoken in this earth. Step out in faith and know that you have the same Holy Spirit in your life to do the work. For all who will put their faith in what He has available for them they can receive through us by the Holy Spirit what He has done.

Abundant Life

John 10:10

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

We know God is not a thief, so anything that involves stealing, killing, or destroying is not from God but from the thief himself, satan. It is interesting to note that in it’s context if you read the previous nine verses here you find out Jesus begins by teaching us that any shepherd who did not come through the gate, which He tells us He is that gate, is a thief. Jesus according to Ephesians 4 is the One who gives us the five fold ministries gifts, which includes the pastor, which is the word for shepherd. What Jesus is teaching us is that any pastor not gifted (ordained) by Him is a thief.

In 2 Corinthians 11:15 we find out that satan has his own ministers who appear as ministers of righteousness, but they are under his control. This is the primary way satan steals, kills, and destroys through false and deceptive teaching mixed with some truth. Paul called them teachers who would tickle one’s itching ears. So if we don’t want to be taken advantage of and we want to experience the life God has for us, we need a shepherd who will teach us as Paul also said the whole counsel of God. Beware of having your ears tickled and only hearing what you want to hear but not receiving all of what scripture teaches. It is in knowing the truth that you will be set free from the destructive works of the thief and experience abundant life.
