We Were Reconciled

2 Corinthians 5:19

that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

The word reconciliation means to make an exchange, to restore to favor with God. Jesus became our substitutionary sacrifice by being made sin so that we could be made righteous. What Jesus is we have become for He became what we were. Once born again we can stand in the presence of God without shame for we have become one with Christ. God was in Christ completing this work on the earth. In the eyes of God the sinner got saved at Calvary when Christ became sin, therefore God is not keeping a record of the sinners sins.

This is what not imputing their sins means. What will send a sinner to hell and eternal damnation is not receiving Christ as their Savior. It is the sinful nature within that is the root of the problem that has them separated from God. All who are born again now have a ministry of sharing this with sinners. It is not their sins that is keeping them separated from God, but the sinful spirit within.

Their sins are the result of that sinful nature. So when you witness to a sinner don’t focus on their sins, focus on the sinful nature within them for that is the root of the problem. If they will repent (turn to God) they will have that sinful nature removed and they can experience reconciliation; the great exchange, dying to the old man and receiving a new spirit within. This is the word about reconciliation He has committed to us to share with all the world.

New Creation

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Once born again you are not an old sinner saved by grace, you are a new creation on the inside. You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body. The spirit is born again and made new. It is the new man that we need to develop so that we can walk in this new life we have been given. Here are the four key things we must do to develop this new man.

Meditate on the Word of God – Taking time to focus your thoughts on who you are in Christ. Once you are born again you become one spirit with the Lord. The more you take time to meditate on who you are as a new creation, the more you start thinking like God thinks. You become God-inside minded.

Be obedient to God’s Word – Don’t just be a hearer of the Word of God, be a doer. This is a major part of our transformation to walk in this new life Christ has for us. Jesus did not die for us to just go to heaven. He died so we could live a new life, a life like He lived here on the earth. As you obey God’s Word you start acting like Him.

Give God’s Word first place in your life – There are many voices in the world that are trying to get our attention, and if we don’t put God’s Word first in our life those voices will lead us astray. Proverbs 4:20 tells us we are to give attention to God’s Word. Make it a priority in your life.

Instantly obey your conscience – Your conscience is the voice of your spirit man. It is that still small voice within that is trying to lead us in line with this new nature. Take time to listen to and immediately obey that inner voice and the real you on the inside will begin to dominate your flesh on the outside.

The new creation within became new for a reason. This was so you could begin to live a new life, walking in the footsteps of Jesus. Develop that new man and your life will never be the same again.

Hear What God Is Saying

2 Corinthians 3:14

But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ.

In Christ we can now receive insight and revelation of the things of God, for God’s Word is foolishness to those who are perishing, but God reveals all things He has freely given to us (believers) through the Holy Spirit who now lives in us. When you open the scriptures you can fellowship with God. Don’t just read the Bible, listen to what it says. God’s Word is God speaking to you. When you go to the Word of God don’t make it a religious duty. Go to the Word just as you would go to a friends house to spend time with them. Give the Word your full attention.

When you go to the house of God have your heart set on hearing from Him. For example in today’s society how often do you see two people at a restaurant and one person is talking but the other person is looking at their cell phone. You are not going to hear all that God is trying to say to you by sitting in church looking at your phone or thinking about other things.

Jesus one day went into the house of Martha and Mary, two sisters, and Martha got distracted trying to serve everyone, but Mary sat at Jesus’ feet taking in every word. Jesus said Mary had chosen the one thing that was needed, hearing from the Lord. So don’t get distracted when coming to the Bible or when hearing God’s Word preached. Jesus said he who has an ear to hear what the Spirit is saying to the church, let him hear. So listen with all your heart for the Bible is God speaking to you.

God Leads Us In Triumph

2 Corinthians 2:14

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.

If you want to triumph in life you must allow God to lead you. God is a winner and if we will let Him lead us we will always triumph. Jesus has provided your victory but you won’t obtain that victory without submission to God’s ways. Allowing God to lead you is how you put your faith in Him and what Christ has done for you. We overcome this world by faith, but we are not in faith if we are not yielding our life unto God and His way of doing things.

We must learn to follow the inward witness of the Holy Spirit, as His Spirit bears witness with our spirit He will direct our steps. Listen for the voice of your spirit man, your conscience, and learn to follow that inward voice. We must also walk in the light of God’s Word. His Word is a lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our path, and when we walk in line with His Word He is leading us into a life of victory; for His truth sets us free.

Last but certainly not least we must walk in love. God is love and when we walk in the love of God with others God is leading us, and love never fails because God never fails. When you allow God to lead you by the Holy Spirit, His Word, and the love of God He will lead you in triumph in this life.

Walk By Faith

2 Corinthians 5:7

Indeed, our lives are guided by faith, not by sight.

Are you walking by faith, or are you walking by sight? Walking by sight means our decisions in life are determined by our senses, or in other words what feels good to us, what our flesh wants, or what we see. To fulfill God’s plan for your life one must learn to walk by faith, not by the senses. The devil knows this all to well and this is why he will do all he can to get us to try and take the easy way out every time.

When you know what God’s will is for your life based on His Word and what you know your heart is telling you in line with the Word, faith must be exercised. Faith believes in the heart, speaks with the mouth, and acts in line with God’s Word. Take the apostle Paul as an example. Paul knew he was to preach the gospel and yet Paul faced all kinds of opposition doing so. Paul didn’t take the easy way out but stuck with his calling to the end. He was beaten with rods, whipped, stoned, jailed, etc, and Paul called them light afflictions. He did so because he walked by faith not by sight.

Many just want to “be happy” from a natural standpoint. I don’t think in the natural view of life those things Paul went through would have been a “happy day”, but Paul knew a joy that could not be shaken because he knew he was obeying the will of God, and that is what faith is all about, being obedient to where and what God has called you to do.

When you get beyond allowing the devil to convince you to take the easy way out and you stand your ground in faith you overcome. 1 John 5:4 says this is what gives us the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. Faith isn’t about living a trouble free life, but overcoming life’s challenges. Are you walking by faith or by sight? Walking by faith is how we fulfill God’s will and reign in life through Christ Jesus.

Number Your Days

Psalms 90:12

So give us knowledge of the number of our days, that we may get a heart of wisdom.

If you knew that you did not have much time left here on earth would you live your life differently? When you take a look at the length of time we have here on earth it really isn’t that long. Moses in the above Psalm knew that if he had a better understanding of how short his time here on earth was this would help him to live his life with greater wisdom. Jesus warned us over and over to be ready for His return. In Mark 13:35-37 He tells us to watch for His return for you don’t know the day nor hour, lest He return and find us asleep.

The word asleep means to become bored with spiritual things, conforming to the world, no longer being influenced by the things of God. In Revelation 3:16 He said all who are lukewarm He would spew them out of His mouth when He returned and this was a warning to believers. If we want to keep watch, to stay awake as a believer and not be found asleep when Jesus returns, we need to realize that our time here is short. Today many believers will tell you they are to busy to spend time with the Lord, or to busy to get involved with doing God’s work or going to church, etc. Let me give you an acronym for busy; Burdened Under Satan’s Yoke.

If we are to busy to focus our life on what really matters, our relationship with God and walking out His will for us, we have the wrong priorities. Take time each day to number you days here on earth for it can help you to live your life with greater wisdom knowing your time is short so that you can make sure your priorities line up with His priorities for you. This will help you to not be found sleeping when He returns.

Freedom From Sin

1 John 1:6, 2:1a

6 If we say, “We have a relationship with God” and yet live in the dark, we’re lying. We aren’t being truthful.

1 My dear children, I’m writing this to you so that you will not sin.

One of the struggles believers may face is overcoming sin in their lives. I have heard many different teachings on how one gets free from sin, but one of the most powerful truths in overcoming sin is found here in the book of 1 John. The first chapter tells us that the disciples had seen Jesus for themselves and had developed an intimate relationship with Him and then with the Father also. John goes on to tell us that there is no darkness in God For He is light.

Then in verse 6 he tells us that if we say we have relationship with Him, which this word is also translated fellowship, and it refers to an intimate relationship with God, and yet we walk in darkness we are lying and not speaking the truth. You see if we do have an intimate relationship with Him, He will rub off on you, and He is light and there is no darkness in Him. It is the same in any relationship where someone spends a lot of time with another person and as they do so, they are going to have an influence on you.

So it is with God. This is why in chapter 2 verse 1 he tells us that he wrote this to us so we would not sin. The most important key to getting free from sin is to get close to God. If you do you will come under His light and that light will influence how you live causing darkness to go from you. So if you want to be free from sin and remain free, stay close to God. As you do, who He is and what He does will rub off on you.
