…being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
All who are born again have been filled with the fruits of righteousness known as the fruit of the spirit revealed to us in Galatians 5:22-23. They are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. To bring that fruit to fruition we must abide in Him, and His Word must abide in us as John 15:7 tells us that when we do so we will bear much fruit. To abide means to become one with.
We abide in Jesus when we become born again and then do not deny Him, for we are then one spirit with the Lord. For His Word to abide in us, to become one with us, we must see the Word prevail over our lives. Our minds must be renewed to the Word of God. The renewal of the mind is more than just getting head knowledge of God’s Word. We must become doers of the Word of God.
When we feed on the Word of God primarily the epistles (for they reveal who we now are in Christ) so that it becomes real to us and become a doer His Word, we abide in His Word. The fruits of righteousness will follow. To live righteous means to walk in conformity to His will, and as we walk in the fruit of the spirit we will always walk in line with God’s will. So if you abide in Him, and His Word abides in you, you become one with the Word and you will walk in the fruits of righteousness.
