The Way, The Truth, The Life

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

Jesus is the way to the Father. It is only through Him that we can be reconciled to God. He is also the way Maker. He can make a way when them seems to be no way. If we look to Him, the author and finisher of our faith, He will provide a way for us. Jesus is the truth, the living Word of God. In John 17:17 Jesus tells us the Word of God is truth. The Bible does not define the Word as true, but truth.

That is because in the natural we will be faced with things that are true. It may be true that our bodies could be dealing with some type of disease or sickness. It may be true that we could be facing a financial challenge or dealing with what may seem like overwhelming odds against us, but the truth can change what is true. If we will simply believe the truth then we can see what may be true changed by the truth.

Jesus is life itself. One will never experience true life, a life filled with the goodness of God by choosing to chase what they want, or do things their way. Jesus said if you lose your life then you will find true life, but if you do not lay down you life you will lose the life He offers. All you need is found in Jesus who is the way, the truth, and the life.

Take God At His Word

Colossians 3:1

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

All who are in Christ should change their focus in life. We should get our focus off of the world and the things of this world, and get focused on the realm of the spirit, putting our focus on God and the things of the spirit. Looking to God’s Word helps us change this view of life. Doing so will help us to see things from God’s perspective.

The key to getting this new view on life is to just accept God’s Word and don’t try to reason it out with your mind. God’s Word is truth. The Bible does not say God’s Word is true, but truth. You may see things in the natural that are true, but God’s truth can change what is true in the natural if you just don’t question the Word of God.

When you come to God’s Word you should say, “If God’s Word says it, I believe it, and that settles it.” Jesus declared that heaven and earth would pass away, but His Word would by no means pass away. So look to the Word and accept what it says as the truth. Don’t question God’s Word, just believe what it says. If we can take humans at their word, we can surely take God at His Word.

New Life

Colossians 2:13

And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,…

One who is in Christ no longer resides in death (separation from God) for Jesus has forgiven us of our sin by becoming sin for us (removing what stood between us and God). We have been made alive together with Jesus Christ. You are one spirit with Him. God told Adam if he sinned he would die. Before Adam sinned all that God had made was good. After he sinned evil entered into the world through the death that came from man’s sin.

Death (all that is not good) reigned in the earth and over man. Jesus has tasted death for all so that man could be restored to life by our union with Him, and now by faith in Christ reign in this life over death and all the evil that came as a result of that death. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Remove the taste of death from your mouth by speaking words of life, declaring what you now have in Christ Jesus.

As a child of God death no longer has dominion over you. See yourself as one with Christ, victorious over death and all the evil that came as a result of that death, for you have been delivered from death and have been made alive with Christ. Death and evil no longer have dominion over you. Speak God’s Word, declaring who you now are in Christ, speak the Words of life.

Crucified With Christ

Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Who is Paul referring to that was crucified? He was of course referring to his spirit man, not his soul nor his body. The disciples in referring to themselves in the first person referred to their spirit man within, the real you. Most Christians are body or soul conscious because when talking about themselves that is what they are referring to.

You must become spirit conscious if you want to walk by faith in the body you live in, for faith comes from your heart not your head. You are a spirit, not a body nor a soul; you have a soul and you live in a body. Once born again we are to walk by faith not by sight. But if we associate ourselves as a body or a soul and we are not spirit conscious we will walk by sight and not by faith missing out on what God wants to do in and through us.

So go to the New Testament and start meditating on the scriptures that reveal the real you, the “new creation” you become once born again. These are the “in Christ” scriptures just like the one above. This will make you conscious of your spirit man, the new you. Develop the man on the inside, and it will help you learn how to walk by faith and not by sight.

He Has Given Us All Things

Romans 8:32

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things.

By our faith in what Christ has done, God the Father has given to us salvation by His Son being delivered up for us, so will He also freely give to us all things. We receive them by faith as a gift from God just like salvation. All that God has for us is based on what Jesus has already done, there is nothing more for Him to do. It is now up to us to receive what we have in Christ. Just like being born again, God has already done what is needed for every person to receive the gift of eternal life.

Scripture tells us that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself. God is not going to do this, it is already so. It is now up to the sinner to receive what He has provided for him. So it is with all Christ has done for us. Many believers are waiting on God to do something but God is waiting on us. Everything in the kingdom of God is reciprocal. If we draw near to God, He will draw near to us.

God has fulfilled in Christ all that is needed for us. We must act in faith upon the Word of God to receive what we have in Him. As Smith Wigglesworth used to say, “Faith is an act.” In the same way we acted upon God’s Word for salvation so we must do to freely receive from God what He has provided for us. If you are waiting on God guess what, He is waiting on you. Act in faith and you can freely receive all things from God.

Nailed To The Cross

Romans 6:6

We know that our old (unrenewed) self was nailed to the cross with Him in order that [our] body [which is the instrument] of sin might be made ineffective and inactive for evil, that we might no longer be the slaves of sin.

Once you receive Christ as your Savior the old sinful nature within has been done away with as your spirit man is made new. There is as the above scripture reveals, an old unrenewed nature that has to do with the soul (mind, will, and emotions), that James 1:21 tells us must be saved (delivered) from the old nature by receiving with meekness the implanted Word of God.

It is this renewal of the mind that helps us to develop our spirit man, and in doing so this new man leads you in victory over the flesh. Walk in the spirit, dominated by your spirit man within, and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh. For the mind to be renewed you must receive the Word with meekness (complete humility). Simply put, you don’t question, argue with, nor doubt God’s Word.

This means you simply believe what it says and act upon it. As James chapter one goes on to tell us, one who is a hearer of the Word but not a doer deceives themselves. But a doer of the Word will be blessed in what they do. One’s mind is not fully renewed until they begin to act upon the Word of God. As you do, you learn to walk in the spirit, allowing your spirit man to dominate, and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

Live Through Him

1 John 4:9

By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.

The word “live” in this verse is defined as, “to enjoy true life”. There is only one way you can enjoy true life. You must live through Jesus, not through the old you. Jesus is our example. To live through Him one must learn to walk in the love of God. Jesus told us in His Word that we now have a new commandment to follow. We are to love one another as He has loved us.

When we walk in love we follow His example and are therefore living our life through Jesus. Scripture teaches us that faith works through love. Jesus lived a life of faith because Jesus lived a life of love. To walk in the love of God is a choice we make, and it takes practice. It is something we choose to do. The love of God is in our new recreated spirit.

Walking in love is choosing to walk in the new you, instead of the old fleshly outer man. To walk in the love of God simply means you treat other people the way you want to be treated, no matter how they treat you. Choose to walk in love and you will live your life through Jesus Christ. In doing so we can enjoy “true life”, the kind of life Jesus lived.

Working In Us

Hebrews 13:21

…working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

By our submission to Jesus Christ our heavenly Father is able to work in us to do that which is pleasing in His sight. Our transformation does not take place by our ability, but God’s ability through our availability. For this to happen we must present our bodies as a living sacrifice unto God. To do so we have to redeem our time, giving attention to our spiritual growth by going to the Word of God. As we do we need to renew our minds to who we now are in Christ.

The renewal of the mind involves four things. 1. Reading the Word of God, and to truly read the Word we must hear what the Lord is saying to us. 2. Meditating on God’s Word. Taking the time to ponder what is being said and how it applies to you. 3. Studying God’s Word. We need to become good students of the Word so that we are rightly dividing the Word of truth. 4. Acting upon God’s Word. One’s mind is not fully renewed without acting upon what we see in the Word of God.

When we are born again that is where the work of God in us begins. When Lazarus was raised from the dead Jesus told His disciples to go and take the grave clothes off of him. Like Lazarus we have come out of the grave, and now through us presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice unto God and having our minds renewed to God’s Word, He can complete His work in us by taking off the grave clothes, the old way of living.

The Power of The Tongue

Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Words – whether we want to admit it or not they are powerful. They can bring forth life into every part of our existence, or they can bring forth death, the choice is up to us. The devil knows all to well the power of words and this is why he works so hard to get people to speak words of death. James 3:2- “For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.”

Even the third chapter of James tells us that this little tongue of ours boasts great power. It goes on to tells us that no man (human effort alone) can tame the tongue. Christians will curse others and bless God, which James tells us should not be so. How then do we deal with our tongue if we want to reap life and not death? There are two primary keys. Matthew 12:34 Jesus said that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Simply put, garbage in, garbage out. Change what you listen to if you want to speak life and not death.

Galatians 5:16 also tells us if we walk in the spirit, governed by our spirit, we will not go the way of the flesh, which will speak words of death when ruling our decisions. Jesus said His Word is Spirit and it is LIFE. Choose to yield unto the Word of God and you will not be controlled by your flesh, and you will speak Words of life. Do these things and the Words of life can come forth from your mouth bringing forth the very life of God for you.

Follow Jesus

Matthew 16:24

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.

Are you a Christ follower? Before you answer that question think about the words of Jesus here in Matthew 16:24. I am very concerned based on what Jesus has said for the future of many who say they are born again, who claim they love Jesus, but are you basing your love on what you say, or what Jesus said? Why is this important? Because one of the many examples in scripture is the church at Laodicea that had a totally different view of themselves then what Jesus did. In fact they are completely opposite views. Without going into a lot of details which you can read about them in Revelation chapter 3, Jesus said when He returned that He would vomit them out of His mouth. These are believers He is speaking to.

What does it take to be lukewarm? Simple, do little to nothing for the kingdom of God. If you take a hot cup of coffee, set it down and do nothing with it, it will turn lukewarm. It is amazing to me how many believers who say they know Jesus don’t really follow Him according to His own words. What was the purpose of giving your life to Him if not to follow Him? Jesus said if you want to be His follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow Him. To give up your own way means to stop living life for you, the way you think you should live, and instead follow His example. Jesus went to church. That’s right, and even with people that wanted Him dead. Many believers are not consistent at all in going to church. It is not about attending a service, but being equipped for the work of ministry. Learning how to give up your ways for His. Yet many have no problem living out their lives committed to other activities, but church is not one of them.

Jesus walked in love, Jesus did only what He saw the Father doing, Jesus said only what the Father wanted Him to say, and to summarize His life He was focused on using His gifts and abilities to build God’s kingdom. Jesus said we are to seek first the kingdom of God, that would mean we take up our cross, giving our lives as a living sacrifice to build God’s kingdom. How much of your time, money, and giftings are used to help build God’s kingdom? If we truly are “Christ Followers”, then we are taking the new life He gave us and using it to bring glory to God. Sad to say not everyone who just prayed a prayer and attends church now and then and gives occasionally to God’s work will hear, “Well done good and faithful servant”. If you are not giving up your way to follow Christ’s example, why then did you call upon Him to be the Lord of your life? To live a life that really will mean something in the end, you must choose to “Follow Him”.
