We Can Overcome Temptation

Hebrews 2:18

For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.

Because Jesus was tempted in all things and yet free from sin, He can now come to aid us in overcoming every temptation. There is nothing He cannot deliver us from. We simply follow in His example that He gave us in the wilderness. Jesus is the Word made flesh, and it is the Word that helps us to overcome temptation.

When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness He defeated each temptation by quoting scripture. As the devil would tempt Him in an area, Jesus countered that temptation with the Word of God as He would declare what was written in the scriptures. If we will feed on the Word we will have the ammunition to face and defeat the temptations that come. As scripture tells us when we hide God’s Word in our hearts we will not sin against Him.

The Word as an offensive weapon, the sword of the Spirit, will help us overcome temptations. We simply declare the Word to our enemy as Jesus did, and therefore resist the temptation and he will flee from you. When temptations come to try and defeat you or mislead you declare what is written, and through the help of the living Word Jesus Himself, you can overcome temptation.

Use Your God-Given Authority

Hebrews 2:14

Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,…

Through the blood Jesus shed for us we have no reason to fear the devil. He has been rendered powerless to all who know their rightful place in Christ. In Ephesians chapter one we are told that God’s mighty power was seen when Jesus was raised from the dead, for He was seated far above all the powers of darkness and every name that is named. It goes on to tell us that all things were placed under His feet, to which He was made the head of His body.

We are the body of Christ. All these powers of darkness were placed under our feet, for the very next chapter tells us that we have been raised up together and seated with Christ at the right hand of God. God’s right hand is the place of ultimate authority. For any believer to have fear of the devil or his works they do not understand their rightful place in Christ.

Do not fear the devil nor his works. Rise up to your rightful place as a child of God and through the name of Jesus and the Word of God, use your authority against our enemy who has been rendered powerless. The only power satan can use against you is by deceiving you or seducing you to be under his control. Walk in your rightful place and keep him under your feet where he belongs using your God-given authority through the name of Jesus. The name above every name!

Take The Limits Off of God

Psalms 78:41-42

41 Yes, again and again they tempted God,

And limited the Holy One of Israel.

42 They did not remember His power:

The day when He redeemed them from the enemy,

Our God is not limited, but we can limit His ability to work in our life. The above verses refer to the children of Israel who were delivered out of Egypt, but they did not walk in all God had available for them. They limited God by not remembering what He had done for them. The word limited in this verse means to set a boundary through a lack of thanksgiving. They were not giving thanks to God for having delivered them, thus they did not remember what God had done.

If you want to take the limits off of God and His ability to work in your life you need to cultivate a lifestyle of thanksgiving. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us whatever happens we are to give thanks to God, for this is His will for us. Being out of God’s will limits Him. Ephesians 5:20 tells us to give thanks to God for all He has done. So no matter what we deal with or go through in life, we are to thank God for all He has done for us through Christ Jesus. When we are complaining we are out of the will of God, but when we are remembering what He has done for us through thanksgiving we are fulfilling His will.

Colossians 2:7 says you will abound in faith through thanksgiving. Psalm 69:30 tells us we magnify our God through thanksgiving. Psalm 95:2 says we become more aware of His presence through thanksgiving. As you abound in faith, magnify God, and become more aware of His presence, you take the limits off of your God. Hebrews 13:15 says we are to continually offer up the sacrifice of praise, giving thanks to God. Make the choice daily to give thanks to God for all He has done for us. In doing so, you will not limit God’s ability to work in your life. You can check out my full message on this by going to:

He Tasted Death For Us

Hebrews 2:9

But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.

Jesus tasted death for all who put their trust in Him. Death is separation from God and separation from the God-kind of life He wants us to live. Because Jesus tasted death for us, we can now walk in the abundant life He has provided. A key to receiving this abundant life has to do with what we feed on and then speak over our lives. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue.

Jesus said man does not live by bread alone but by every Word of God. Jesus also said the Words He spoke are Spirit and they are “life”. Scripture teaches us that out of the abundance of the heart our mouth speaks. So we now have the choice to continue to taste death by feeding on worldly things, and therefore tasting death through the words we speak, or we can feed on God’s Word and taste life by speaking His Word.

Jesus Himself said He only spoke the Words He heard from the Father. Any believer who feeds on worldly things is going to fill their hearts with words of defeat not words of victory. Even James chapter 3 tells us our very own words are what determines the direction our life goes. If you want to live the abundant life God has for you, you must start feeding on the Word of God, and then speak in line with His Word, which produces life. The choice of death or life is up to you.

We Have An Inheritance By Birthright

Titus 3:7

…so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

By grace (receiving what we did not deserve through faith in Christ) we have been declared righteous (justified), and made heirs of God. Having been made righteous, we are His children and therefore we now have a right to all that Christ has provided for us. When someone passes away they have a will. That will determines who will receive what that person has given to them as a part of their inheritance.

Jesus having died for us provided to all who become a part of God’s family an inheritance. He wrote it in His will, the New Testament. If someone receives an inheritance from another person they have to claim that inheritance. So it is with what Christ has provided for us. He has given us in His will what we now have a right to, but we have to claim our inheritance.

You don’t earn an inheritance, it is yours because it was willed to you. In the same way we don’t earn the inheritance God has for us, it already belongs to us, but we claim it by faith based on His written will. Take time to read and meditate on His Word so you can know of all He has provided for you, and claim by faith what you as child of God now have a right to because you are an heir of God.

Stay Full of The Glory

Colossians 1:27

To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

The glory of God is His very presence. His glory is in us because He has given us the Holy Spirit. It is His very presence upon us, the anointing of God, that removes the burdens and destroys the yokes of bondage off of our lives. For us to experience the power of God’s presence working in our lives there are three things we should not do. Do not quench, resist, nor grieve the Holy Spirit.

To quench the Holy Spirit is like putting water upon a fire and putting out that fire. There are believers whom scripture tells us have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof. Quenching the Spirit is choosing to willfully live a life of disobedience toward God. When we do the Holy Spirit is being quenched by our lifestyle and we are denying His work in changing our lives.

This leads to resisting the Holy Spirit, which means as the Spirit of God now tries to lead us away from wrong living by the inward witness we resist Him. The more we do our conscience is seared and becomes numb to the inward witness of the Spirit and He becomes grieved because we are no longer responsive to Him. So don’t quench, resist, nor grieve the Holy Spirit of God, and take time to pray in the Spirit, for then you are yielding unto His Spirit within you. This will help you to walk in the awareness of His glorious presence that removes burdens and destroys yokes of bondage.

Delivered Out Of Darkness

Colossians 1:13

For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,…

When God made the earth and all that is in it and then made man placing him in a beautiful garden created just for him, the Bible says it was good. There was no evil, no sickness, no sorrow, and no pain. All that is evil (not good) came from satan gaining access into this world through Adam and Eve’s act of disobedience. Darkness represents all that is evil. But praise God Jesus through His shed blood rescued us from this darkness taking us out from the kingdom of this world and transferring us into the kingdom of God. For all who know Jesus Christ, they have been placed right back into the very position Adam had before the fall.

God told Adam he had dominion over all the earth and to therefore subdue it. Through our faith in Jesus Christ and our right standing with God we can do the same. The devil has only two weapons, deception and seduction. He will try to seduce us or to deceive us into doing or thinking what is harmful and wrong to gain control over our lives. But we have been given the same authority Adam had to subdue the powers of the enemy. Don’t get seduced into doing or thinking things you know are not true. Keep your focus on God.

When someone is seduced they know they are doing or thinking wrong, but when someone is deceived they don’t know it. To avoid deception renew your mind to the Word of God and don’t try to reason it out, just believe it and act upon it. God’s people perish for a lack of knowledge, but if you know the truth, which is staying true to God’s Word, that truth will set you free from deception. So keep your heart set on God, and walk in the reality of the Word, and you can live on this earth in your rightful place with God; delivered from darkness and walking in the power of God’s kingdom and authority.

Work Out Your Salvation

Phil. 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Phil. 2:13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Our obedience to God is how we work not for, but work out the salvation we have been given. As we choose to yield and be obedient to God’s Word, He empowers us to obtain our victory over the world in which we live, for the word salvation means to be delivered. We are in the world but not of the world. This is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. Faith is obedience to God’s Word. As the book of James teaches us faith without corresponding action is dead.

Smith Wigglesworth used to say that faith is an act. If you go to Hebrews chapter eleven known as the hall of faith, you will find that all these people who were spoken of by God as having faith simply did what God told them to do. For example Noah was told to build an ark so Noah built an ark. Abraham was told to leave his family and go out into the wilderness, and so he did.

Jesus has already purchased all we need through His shed blood which is found in the salvation He has given us, but we must by faith work out that salvation. When you walk by faith it is God who is at work in you to do that which is pleasing unto Him, for as you walk by faith, walking out what His Word teaches, His Word is at work accomplishing in and through you all He has provided through salvation.
