My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.
There is evidence that one has actually become a disciple of Jesus, that they listen and adhere to what they are being taught by the Lord Jesus Christ. The evidence of a true disciple of Jesus is that they bear much fruit. One who is a disciple does not have to tell other people they are a Christian or more correctly, a Christ follower. It will be evidenced by the way they live. They will say and do things that Jesus did.
Galatians 5:16, 22-23
16 Let me explain further. Live your life as your spiritual nature directs you. Then you will never follow through on what your corrupt nature wants.
22 But the spiritual nature produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, and self-control. There are no laws against things like that.
Bearing much fruit means we see this evidence of the fruit of the spirit manifesting consistently in and through our lives, just as they did in Jesus’ life. One of these fruits is self-control. This fruit means we do not allow our fleshly nature to rule over us, for we take control over that old nature.
The key to bearing much fruit is found here in verse 16. If we allow our spiritual nature, the man on the inside, our spirit man to direct our choices and decisions in life, we will bear spiritual fruit. To do this we must grow spiritually, getting our minds set on spiritual things and not carnal things. To be spiritually minded produces this life of the spirit. A disciple of Jesus learns to develop this spirit man where he dominates the decisions you make, leading you to bear much fruit following in the footsteps of Jesus.
