2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
There is an absolute in life that will always keep us from being led astray and it is the very thing that completes us, equipping us with what we need for every good work, it is the Word of God. Sad to say many believers are trying to rewrite the Bible to fit their wants and desires, whether it be to live in sin, or to chase after an experience that is not seen in the life of Jesus, His disciples, nor anyone who walked with God. The enemy works at tempting us with what we desire so that he can lead us away from the only thing that will bring true freedom, the Truth!
We come to know the Truth through sound doctrine. Sound doctrine is teaching founded upon what God’s Word says, not what man thinks about it, but taking God’s Word In context to the whole of scripture. This is why we need a shepherd who has been gifted by God to teach us the Truth and not man made religion. As we receive sound doctrine reproof will come. Reproof means a revealing of wrongdoing. God’s Word will reveal where we need to make changes in our life so we can stop doing things that are not good for us. If we receive this reproof it will lead to correction from the Word of God.
God’s Word will give us the understanding of how to correct these areas of our life so we can make changes. As we receive and apply correction we will also get further insight into God’s instructions for living out our life so that we can walk in the righteousness that we have been given, and all that comes with our right standing with God. If you want to walk in true liberty don’t change the Bible to fit your lifestyle and think it’s ok. I can still here the voice of one of my spiritual fathers who is now in heaven as he said many times, “Stick with the Book”. Thank you Dr. Sutton for that simple biblical truth that we all need to follow.
