Imitate Their Faith – Part 2

Hebrews 6:12
…imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

PART TWO: In part one of how to obtain the promises of God we learned that you must be walking in Bible faith. The second thing you must do is persevere. As our foundation scripture teaches you are to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. The word patience means to persevere. You don’t change your course, you keep acting in faith, walking in obedience to what God’s Word says you are to do to obtain His promises. A great example of perseverance is the apostle Paul.

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Notice Paul tells Timothy here that he “kept the faith”. Simply put, he never swayed from what the Lord had told him. It is one thing to get in faith, it is another thing to stay in faith. Often believers who begin in faith change their confession and actions, acting contrary to the Word of God. You will not obtain your inheritance unless you stay in faith.

Acts 20:24
But none of these things move me…
Paul learned that to obtain the promises of God he could not allow other things to change what he was doing, walking in obedience to what God said. You cannot allow your reasoning, emotions, how your body feels, what others may say, etc, to move you to stop walking in line with God’s Word. Remember faith as Hebrews 11 reveals is acting upon what God has said, but you must never stop doing so to obtain your inheritance. Remember, Abraham did not consider his own body nor Sarah’s body, he only considered what God said and acted upon it. You must stay in faith if you are to receive God’s promises.

Imitate Their Faith – Part 1

Hebrews 6:12
…imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

PART ONE: If you want to inherit the promises of God in your life we are told to imitate those who through faith and patience have inherited those promises. I want to share with you three key things you must do to inherit the promises of God. The first as revealed in the above verse is to walk in Bible faith. Many believers will tell you they are walking by faith, but when you look at Bible faith they are not.

Romans 4:19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb

Abraham, known as the father of faith, is one of our greatest examples of what it means to walk by faith and not by sight. Notice he did not consider what was true in the natural realm, but instead only considered the Word he had from God. You see to walk by faith means your words and actions fully line up with what God said and not what you see. To do this we must have complete understanding of what God has said in His Word, and then walk in obedience to that Word or promise we have been given.

This is the first step to your inheritance. If Abraham had not obeyed God to go into the desert and follow after God, he would have never obtained God’s promise. You must listen to and then walk in line with what God’s Word says. Obedience and faith go hand in hand.

Write The Vision

Habakkuk 2:2
Then the Lord answered me and said:
“Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.

The Word “Vision” here means revelation, or what has been revealed. God has always emphasized writing things down. The reason we are to do so is revealed in the later part of this verse of scripture, so that you may run with it, or simply put, become a doer of what God has revealed to you. How can you be a doer of what you have not retained knowledge of? This verse if followed can make a huge impact on changing your life.

Statistics say that the average person only retains around 5% of what they hear. What is one of the primary purposes of hearing God’s Word proclaimed? It is so that you will become a doer and not a forgetful hearer of the Word as James 1:22 tells us. The doer of the Word James said will be blessed. Why are many believers not doers of the Word? One reason is because they don’t take notes on what they hear. When you take notes on key points of what you hear, your retention rate goes up to around 50%. If you review those notes within 24 hours you retention rate goes up to 70%.

Think of how many hours are wasted by people who hear God’s Word preached or even read the Bible, but because they do not take notes they only retain about 5%. Isn’t the purpose of hearing and reading God’s Word to become a doer? Tough to accomplish if you don’t retain it. To live a transformed life you must have your mind renewed to God’s Word so that you can become a doer. Many assume what they hear they are doing. But to retain what you have heard as God has said, you need to write down what He is revealing to you when you hear or read God’s Word. Doing so will truly transform you life.

Don’t Fall Asleep

1 Thessalonians 5:6, 8
6 Therefore, we must not fall asleep like other people, but we must stay awake and be sober.
8 Since we belong to the day, we must be sober. We must put on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

Those who are born again Jesus has warned in the gospels to watch (stay awake), not to fall asleep, which means to become spiritually lazy. Here in 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul is warning believers about the same thing right before the return of the Lord, not to fall asleep as some do. If you become spiritually lazy and fall asleep not only will you be unprepared for the Lord’s return, you can be taken advantage of by satan through fear and deception. What are some of the key things Paul reveals to stay awake.

In verse eight he reveals three things you must put on and keep on. The breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. It goes without saying you need faith to overcome the things that satan is bringing into manifestation in our world. Many believers are not waking by faith, but are in fear. The key element to maintain your faith walk is hearing the Truth of God’s Word preached. If you do not get under the teaching of God’s Truth for your life, you will be weak in faith.

You need to maintain your love walk. The key to doing this is to maintain a close walk with God the Father, for He is love. If you walk in the love of God, that love not only reaches out to others, it is also willing to speak the Truth. You also need to maintain the hope of your salvation, which means to never lose sight of the Lord’s return. Many have, for if they knew how close His return was, they would as scripture teaches keep themselves purified from the world. Maintain these three key areas for your life and you will not be found sleeping when Jesus returns.

Don’t Grow Weary

Galatians 6:9
Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.

One of the most important things to walking in victory as a believer in this life is to never quit. Our adversary knows if he can get us to stop walking by faith and give up on God He can defeat us. But if we will not grow weary in doing what we know that scripture teaches us in living a life of faith, we will be victorious in life.

In the preceding verses here in Galatians 6 scripture teaches us we will reap what we sow. If we sow to the flesh we will reap corruption, but if we sow to the spirit we reap the kind of life God has for us. Don’t spend your time consumed with fleshly things that will not build you up spiritually. Maintain a consistent walk with God by making time for His Word, His house, and the things of God a priority. To often the devil gets believers weary by simply pulling them away from spiritual things that would bring great strength to their life. God is the strength of our life but when we no longer put God’s things first, we will grow weary for there is no other source of sustaining strength.

So maintain your spiritual walk as a believer by seeking first the things of God, and don’t fall for the deception of looking to the world for your happiness in life for it is God who completes you, and He is the source of your strength. Quitters never win and winners never quit.

Love Never Fails

1 Corinthians 13:8a
Love never fails.

In 1 John 4:8 we find out that God is love. When we walk in love we are walking with God, and if we are walking with God we cannot fail. There is much emphasis placed upon walking by faith in the Christian life and rightfully so, but there should be just as much if not even more emphasis placed on the importance of walking in the love of God.

In 1 Corinthians 13:13 we are told to abide in faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love. Galatians 5:6 reveals why this is true. Faith works through love. In other words you can have faith to move mountains as Paul states in 1 Corinthians 13:2, but if you don’t have love your faith will not work. Think of it as a power plant that generates power, a switch releases that power, and cables carry that power to where it needs to go, but what if the power lines are down? That power will not accomplish what it is there to do.

We have the power of God within us, the Holy Spirit, faith is the switch that releases that power, but love is the power line through which that power flows, and if you are out of love that power will not get where it needs to go. When we are born again God’s love is poured out into our hearts, it is already in there. We need to act upon that love for our faith to work.

The love of God is not an emotion or a feeling, but a fruit of the new recreated human spirit. Practice waking in the love of God, for what you practice you get good at. God’s love is simply treating others the way you want to be treated, no matter how they treat you. Choose to act upon His love within you, for your faith depends on it.

The Precious Blood of Jesus

1 Peter 1:18-19

18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,

19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

The rarest thing ever known to man on planet earth is the precious blood of Jesus, for this was God’s very own blood that was given to redeem mankind. The word redeemed means to deliver from an oppressive and destructive condition by the payment of a ransom. That is what Jesus did for us in shedding His blood. Six different times Jesus shed His blood for us and each time a payment was being made to deliver us.

The first time blood was shed was in the garden of Gethsemane where Jesus was praying about going to the cross. He

prayed not His will be done, but the will of the Father, and as He prayed in agony the Bible says He sweat drops of blood. Jesus paid to deliver us from our own human will so that we could live in the Father’s will for us. Then He being arrested was scourged at the whipping post, paying the price for our healing, for by His stripes we are healed.

After this the soldiers put a crown of thorns upon His head and blood flowed out paying the price for us to have a renewed mind as Scripture teaches us, we have the mind of Christ. Then He was crucified, nails driven through His hands so that we could live free from the dominion of sin, for the Bible says we are to lift holy hands to the Lord. Then they drove a nail through His feet and He provided for us dominion over evil, for Luke 10:19 tells us we can trample upon all the powers of darkness.

Finally they pierced His side near the heart and the blood that poured out delivered us from the old spirit man within and purchased for us a new spirit. The key to walking in all He has purchased is to simply agree with God that all these things are already done, for the Word of God tells us we already are, not one day going to be, redeemed. We must also act upon His Word, for faith without corresponding action is dead. May you walk in the liberty of all Christ has freed you from through His precious blood He shed for you.
