The Holy Spirit Will Teach Us

1 John 2:27
But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.

The Holy Spirit is the One who helps us to get revelation of the things of God in our heart. When revelation comes faith is there. It’s like walking into a dark room not being able to see the way out and then the Holy Spirit flips the light switch on. Once that happens you can see the way to go and act upon the Word of God.

A vital key in receiving this revelation is in how we read and listen to the teaching of God’s Word. Whether reading or hearing the Word taught, you must first recognize it is God speaking to you. It is not man’s words but God’s, for all scripture is given by inspiration of God. Secondly you must give your full attention to God’s Word and not become distracted with other things. Pay close attention to what you are hearing.

Third you must learn to take verses that speak of who you are and what you have and declare them daily. Faith grows in the atmosphere of the spoken Word. Finally put what you know into practice, for you deceive yourself if you are a hearer and not a doer of the Word. Put these truths into practice and His Word will become alive in you by the Holy Spirit.

God Is Light

1 John 1:5
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

Have you ever had someone accuse you of something you have not done? I am sure we have all experienced this in our lives. Did you know God has been accused of many things He has never done? Because of ignorance of the Word of God, and for others who do not know how to walk by faith and don’t see the results God’s Word promises, they falsely accuse God of things that are not true. For example, they may say God does not heal everyone, or they blame God for the death of a young person saying that God took them because He needed another angel in heaven.

First of all healing is for everyone as scripture clearly teaches in Acts 10:38, that Jesus went about healing all, but not all know how to receive it. God has also promised us long life, so to refer to someone who is young that God took them is also contrary to the Word of God. God is light, and there is no darkness in Him. The works of darkness are not of God, they are of the evil one. God has come to give us LIFE, and that more abundantly, it is the devil who comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

The devil wants you to believe these lies about God, because then he can keep you from receiving what God has for you. The greatest truth to remember about our heavenly Father comes from Jesus. Jesus said, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father”. Jesus modeled the Father to us. Jesus never did anything that was of the works of darkness. Don’t fall for these lies about God. As James 1:17 tells us, all good gifts come from God and He does not change for He is light, and there is no darkness in Him.

Walking In The Light

Ephesians 5:8
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light…

God is light, and when we walk in the light we walk with Him and in Him. Let me share with you three keys to walking in the light we have now been given. Psalm 119:130 tells us the entrance of the Word gives light. Take time to go through the New Testament and begin to daily declare who the Word says you now are in Christ Jesus. For example, you are more than a conqueror. The more you declare these truths about the new you on the inside, the more they will help you walk in that light on the outside.

Psalm 119:105 tells us His Word is a lamp to our feet, and a light to our path. Begin to practice what scripture teaches us as it relates to our actions in life. Anything you take time to practice you get good at. Hebrews 5:14 tells us that through reason of use (practicing) the Word, we will mature and be able to discern between good and evil. That would be walking in the light.

In 1 John 2:10 we are told he who walks in love abides in the light. We need to be walking in the love of God every day. Doing so is a choice we make. God’s love is not a feeling, but a fruit of our new spirit nature. We simply need to practice treating others the way we would want them to treat us. When we do, we abide in the light of God’s love. Take time to practice these three things and you can walk as children of light.

The Fragrance of God’s Love

2 Corinthians 2:15
For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing;…

Before salvation we had the smell of death, but in Christ we now have the fragrance of new life. This fragrance is the love of God. When you are born again that love is poured out into your heart, your new spirit man. Walking in God’s love is a choice we make every day. It is a choice we make to treat others the way that you would want to be treated, no matter how they treat you.

When you are walking in love you are walking with God, for God is love. But when you choose not to walk in the love of God you are not walking with Him. This takes you out from under God’s protection, and you can fall prey to the ways and the works of satan. But when you choose to walk in love you are not only protected from the works of darkness, you put off the fragrance of Christ, living as He lived.

People will take notice because you do not look like nor act like the world. This love is not an emotion, but revealed through actions. You simply choose to show God’s love no matter how you feel, for that love is in every believer and is manifest as we choose to follow the way of God’s love. As we walk in love we can draw others out of the smell of death, and bring them into new life and a new way of living through the fragrance of God’s love.

Connected To The Body

Ephesians 4:16
From Him the whole body, fitted and knit together by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth of the body for building up itself in love by the proper working of each individual part.

It is from Christ Jesus that we are provided with His gifts that knit us together and strengthen us as a body. When we walk in gratitude for what Christ has done for us, we will desire to fulfill our role within the church body we are a part of. Finding our place in the body is of great importance. In using our gifts within the body we are helping to build the church in reaching more people and helping them to become a disciple of Jesus Christ.

This is why every born again believer is to find their shepherd and get connected to a local church family. Not doing so makes us weaker, and it hinders the body of Christ in fulfilling it’s purpose of reaching people with the gospel. If we are not connected to a local church body by finding our shepherd, we are not fulfilling one of our primary purposes as the body of Christ. In fulfilling our part of the body it also helps us become stronger against the attacks of the enemy.

Scripture teaches us that our enemy goes after stragglers, those who are isolated from the body of Christ. But when you become a part of a local church family you have others around you to help strengthen you, for iron sharpens iron. Get connected by being involved with the local church body God has called you to by finding your shepherd. Be faithful to Jesus in doing your part, and it will bring growth to the body and bring a great strength to your life.

Crucified To The World

Galatians 6:14
But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

The believer in Christ has been crucified to the world. The word crucified here means: to destroy it’s power. By faith in the power of the cross of Christ, the world’s power over the believer has been broken. You are in the world, but no longer of the world for you are a new creation in Christ Jesus. To see this inward transformation now change us on the outside, we must do two things as stated in Romans 12:1-2.

First we must present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, set apart unto God. Our fleshly body should not rule us. So we must daily choose to honor God by yielding our body in obedience to Him. Secondly we must renew our minds to the Word of God, specifically learning who we now are in Christ Jesus, and what He has done for us through the cross so that we no longer conform to the world, but are transformed into this new man.

Renewing the mind is not complete until one becomes a doer of the Word. This includes confessing who we now are in Christ, boasting in the cross and what Jesus has done for us. This renewing of the mind to the new you on the inside is the greatest need in the body of Christ. Through a renewed mind we are set free from the worlds ways and become living proof of the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.
